WHY OUR HEARTS BELONG TO AVOCADOS

With the avocado season winding down in California, here are some friendly reminders about the benefits and reasons why we can’t get enough of our avocado toasts.

I’m a huge fan of avocados and I just love the summer season when they are abundant in California and falling from the trees. Every year, I’m always so thankful for where we live because the avocados are flowing everywhere and they’re affordable. Not only do they taste delicious, they are extremely nutritious, too.

In addition to all those beneficial heart-healthy fats that we all know and love, avocados are loaded with essential vitamins and nutrients that keep us looking and feeling our best. Here are a few reasons how:

Protective.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant with anti-aging properties that helps prevent our skin from free radical damage.

Age-defying.

Vitamin C is fantastic for skin health by creating collagen and elastin which helps keep our skin firm and wrinkle-free.

Fortifying.

Vitamin K is important for maintaining bone health and assisting with increased calcium absorption so we stay strong.

Filling.

Fiber is fabulous for filling us up and aiding in digestion (it helps us poop!). In fact, one large Hass avocado has 14g of fiber, nearly half of the daily recommended amount!

Sustaining.

Folate is known for its heart-protective properties, and may have a protective effect against cancer due to its role in DNA production and prevention of unwanted mutated cells. Folate is also essential for pregnant women and healthy babies as it is critical for growth and development.

With so much versatility, some of my favorite ways to enjoy avocado include guacamole, in smoothies, as a mayo substitute, in salads, and even grilled!

ENJOY!
